Recovery

Find out why recovery has slowed.

A hard session takes longer to shake off, and so does a long week. Some of that is age. Often part of it has causes that can be measured: how much protein you eat, how well you sleep, and a few blood markers that quietly run low. Labs come first, then advice built on what they show.

Who this is for

  • A hard session takes days to shake off now.
  • You sleep, but you do not wake up rested.
  • Long days leave you flat in a way they did not used to.
  • You train as much as ever and feel you get less back.
  • You want to know what is actually going on, not another gadget.

What this path addresses

Fuel and training load

Older muscle needs more protein at each meal to respond to training, and training that outpaces rest can show up as tiredness that does not lift. Your doctor talks through protein, strength work and rest with you, and creatine, one of the best-studied supplements for adults over 45, if you train.

Sleep

Sleep gets shorter and lighter with age, and losing a night of it has been shown to cut how fast muscle rebuilds, in younger adults. If insomnia is part of the picture, your doctor can point you to CBT-I, the first-line treatment for it, which works in adults over 60 too.

Treatable causes in your blood

We check for causes that can be treated: low iron, low vitamin D, thyroid, and low testosterone in men with symptoms. A licensed doctor reviews the results, and treatment is prescribed only if a condition is diagnosed.

Measured, not guessed

Recovery is easy to feel and hard to judge, so it is measured. You start with labs, and if you wear a device, its trends are read over time alongside them:

  • Ferritin and iron
  • Vitamin D
  • Thyroid markers (TSH, free T4)
  • Testosterone, in men with symptoms
  • hs-CRP
  • Resting heart rate, HRV and sleep, if you wear a device

What to expect

Your first weeks

Labs and a short questionnaire about your sleep, training and diet come first. A doctor licensed in your state reads them with you. If a cause is found, you hear what it is. If nothing is off, we tell you that too.

The first months

Advice built on the basics with the best evidence: protein at each meal, strength work and sleep.

Ongoing

The markers your doctor is watching are re-checked on your treatment's schedule, and the advice changes when they, or how you feel, say it should.

If a condition is diagnosed

Treatment follows a diagnosis, never the other way round. A doctor licensed in your state decides whether anything is prescribed, and only after reviewing your labs and history.
